Has China picked Europe over the United States?

The EU is the larger trading partner to China, it makes sense to invest more in a larger trading partner. Besides, the amount China is already invested in America means they will already get a large return. China diversifying its portfolio (eggs and baskets) will give China more sources of income. If China's America investment loses value its EU investment will continue to provide income.
