Help, hair color catastrophe?!!?

I got a perm last november. In june I colored it a dark brown with clairol natural insticts and then I colored it black with clairol natural insticts in August. It didn't look bad, but knowing I was going to get much paler come the fall I wanted to lighten up. This time I used permanant dye Loreal in an ash light brown, but it only colored an 1/8in. of my roots. It looks terrible. I dont know whether to go to a hair salon and have it bleached(AFRAID TO DAMAGE MORE) or just dye the roots with clairol natural insticts. I DON'T WANT BLACK HAIR ANYMORE EITHER.
