Can anyone help me hook my security system's DVR to my computer and set it up for remote viewing?

I already have the 8 wired cameras in place and the dvr is hooked to them and in the location of my computer. Now what do I hook the DVR to? Should it be routed through my dsl modem to my computer or straight to my computer tower. This system is going to be a remote viewing system so my modem is bridged...but now what? How do I hook it up and get an ip address to view the cameras. The program, Microjack EYES Pro, for viewing the cameras on my desktop is already installed and actually worked at one time, but then I added 4 more cameras and had to go to the dvr for more capacity. Please help...in idiot terms please, I am computer literate until it comes to networking and web site set up, and I know very little about ip addresses??
