What mascara do I use? I have an awkward make-up sitch...?

The thing is, I've got blue eyes and a pale (not sallow) complexion (dirty blonde hair), and my lashes look so frigging short!!! This basically means i should be using some lengthening and volumising thing, although nothing works to provide that natural look cos if i put virtually any black mascara/eyeliner it's so obvious and i look like a slut....! Please help! I just bought falsies in brown by maybelline and it works okay-ish, but not as well as mascara could....
